about

Holocaust is a song by the punk band Crisis. The original line-up was active from 1977 to 1980. (t)dsf main man Sea says; I have always wanted to release a cover song but I've never heard anything that I thought I could sufficiently cover, make it our own, and stay true to the original spirit of the song. (t)dsf has never been a political band or had any overtly direct message. Our lyrics are impressionistic. In the case of the Cult of Sargasso trilogy, the words are about creating an atmosphere, using metaphors and symbolism to create this little "world" where we tell a story. Covering this song was a way to sing something entirely different... something direct and inspiring and absolutely relevant to today. The desire to do this song came from the storming of the US Capitol and the trend towards Nationalism. We've always considered ourselves a punk band, if not in sound, then certainly in attitude and spirit. Though the word punk hardly means anything anymore. Most of our members, past and present, grew up listening to punk and skateboarding and it's a big part of who we are. I was inspired to pick up a skateboard and a guitar by the bands I read about in Thrasher magazine. Interestingly, a few of the members of Crisis ended up completely contradicting themselves with a move toward right wing politics in their music. They subsequently disavowed that move. So in my estimation they had it right the first time. They seem to have realized it as well. Crisis was, in my opinion, a very talented and underrated band. Plus they nailed the repetitive vibe that is such a big part of (the) Dead Sea Flowers.
